ORGAN CONCERT WITH STEFAN DONNER
Donner in Oslo Cathedral – Oslo International Church Music Festivl
The Austrian organist Stefan Donner has made a name for himself as a concert organist and garnered international recognition. This is his first time visiting the festival. At the concert in Oslo Cathedral, he will present a beautiful and varied program. Mozart’s Allegro and Andante, KV 608, and Eine kleine Gigue, KV 574 combine a classical form with playful counterpoint, while Bach’s Sonata in D minor, BWV 527 represents the trio sonata’s balance between voice-leading and structure. Franz Schmidt’s four chorale preludes continue the German chorale tradition, and the concert concludes with Max Reger’s Fantasia and Fugue in D minor, Op. 135b, a work combining Bach’s polyphonic heritage with romantic intensity and harmonic complexity.

Weiter ging es mit dem großen Orgelkomponisten, von dem Stefan Donner auf der Franz-Schmidt-Orgel der Pfarrkirche zwei Stücke zu Gehör brachte: die Toccata C-Dur und das G-Dur-Präludium aus den Vier kleinen Präludien und Fugen. Der Organist wählte deutlich kontrastierende Registrierungen für die charakterlich sehr verschiedenen Stücke. Klang die Toccata hell, strahlend und durchdringend, so war das ruhige Präludium in dezente, warme Klangfarben gehüllt. Loben muss man Donners Tempogestaltung in der Toccata. Er spielte sehr gebunden und wählte ein relativ gemessenes Zeitmaß, das es ihm ermöglichte, die harmonischen Ereignisse, die sich in der gleichmäßig strömenden Sechzehntelbewegung des Stückes verbergen, adäquat zur Geltung zu bringen. Eine großartige Aufführung!
